Search volume
See Google search volume next to every AI prompt
AI prompts are long questions, and keyword tools don’t know what to do with them. Rankry maps each prompt to the short searches behind it and shows their Google search volume in the Prompts table, so you can tell which questions carry real demand.

From prompt to searches
United States- Prompt: “What’s the best way for UGC creators to track brand deals and payments?”
- Concept: UGC deal tracking
- Exact searches: ugc deal tracker · track brand deals · ugc creator crm
- Volume: 320 a month (Google Ads, 12-month average)
Sample data
In short
Search volume for a prompt is the estimated number of monthly Google searches for the terms behind that prompt. Rankry maps every tracked prompt to up to three exact searches, looks up their Google Ads search volume, and shows the largest value in a “Volume” column next to AI Volume, refreshed every 30 days.
The method
How does Rankry find search volume for a long prompt?
Nobody types a 15-word question into Google Ads, so a prompt has to be translated into searches first. This is how Rankry does it.
- 01
Read the prompt
An AI model reads the prompt and names its core concept in two or three words.
- 02
Write the searches
It writes up to three exact searches a person would type into Google for the same need, plus two broader ones.
- 03
Look up Google volume
Rankry fetches Google Ads search volume for those searches from DataForSEO, as a 12-month average with close variants included.
- 04
Show one honest number
The Volume column shows the largest value among the exact searches, never a sum. If there is no volume, it shows N/A.
- 05
Keep it fresh
Values refresh every 30 days, and whenever prompts are generated, imported or edited.
Two kinds of query
Keywords vs AI prompts: what’s the difference?
SEO grew up around keywords. AI search runs on prompts. Search volume is the bridge between the two, and it helps to see how they differ.
| Aspect | Keyword | AI prompt |
|---|---|---|
| Typical length | Two to four words | A full question, often ten words or more |
| Example | ugc deal tracker | What’s the best app for UGC creators to track brand deals and payments? |
| Where it is typed | Google and other search engines | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and other assistants |
| Volume data | Reported by Google Ads and keyword tools | No public count exists for exact prompts |
| What winning looks like | A high-ranking page in a list of results | Being named, ideally first, in one written answer |
| In Rankry | The Volume column: Google searches for the prompt’s terms | Visibility and position in each engine’s answer |
Two sides of one question
Does Google search volume tell you anything about AI search?
Yes, as long as you read it for what it is. Google search volume measures how many people look for a topic on Google. People researching a purchase rarely use just one place to ask, and Google’s own AI Overviews appear on many results pages. A topic with strong search demand is a topic where AI answers are likely to be read.
What search volume can’t tell you is how the conversation goes inside an assistant. People ask longer, more specific questions there, often with details about their situation. That is why Rankry keeps volume as a guide for prioritizing, and measures the AI side directly: whether each engine names you, at what position, and what it says.
Used together, the two views keep you honest. Search volume stops you from optimizing for questions nobody has. AI visibility shows whether you win the questions that matter.
Why it matters
Why does search volume matter for AI prompts?
A prompt can sound important and still describe a need nobody has. Search volume is a quick reality check.
It shows real demand
A prompt that maps to searches with volume describes a need people actually have, not just a question that sounds plausible.
It helps you prioritize
When you trail in many prompts, start with the ones where demand is highest.
It links AI work to SEO
The searches you rank for in Google sit behind many AI prompts. Volume shows where the two overlap.
It feeds Opportunities
Rankry’s “In your prompts” opportunities blend citation demand with Google volume when enough of your prompts have it.
It flags prompts to review
Prompts with no volume and no AI Volume may still matter, but they deserve a second look before you spend requests on them every run.
It sits next to AI Volume
Seeing both side by side shows whether a topic is searched as a keyword, asked as a question, or both.
Behind the scenes
How is search volume used in Rankry’s opportunities?
On the Opportunities page and in step 2 of the Action plan, Rankry flags prompts where no brand owns the answer yet: “Open field” when no tracked competitor is named, and “Low competition” when rivals appear but none holds the answer. To rank these prompts, it scores demand.
Demand starts with how heavily the engines research a prompt, measured by the number of unique pages they cite. When at least one in five of your prompts has Google search volume, Rankry blends the two, weighting citations at 70% and search volume at 30%. A prompt qualifies when its demand is at or above the median of your prompts, you are named in no more than 40% of its answers, and no tracked rival clearly owns the answer.
AI Volume is not part of this score. Opportunities use what the engines cited and Google search volume. Each opportunity has a “Write” button that opens Content Studio with a brief for that prompt.
Reading the column
What do the Volume numbers mean?
The Volume column is simple on purpose. These are the details behind each number.
| Detail | How it works |
|---|---|
| Source | Google Ads search volume, fetched through DataForSEO |
| Period | A 12-month average, so seasonal peaks are smoothed out |
| Variants | Close variants of each search are included |
| Value shown | The largest value among the prompt’s exact searches, never a sum |
| Market | Your project’s country, or worldwide for Global projects |
| Language | English-language keyword data |
| N/A | No measurable volume for any of the prompt’s exact searches |
| Refresh | Every 30 days, and when prompts are generated, imported or edited |
A short routine
How do I use search volume to choose prompts?
Search volume works best as one input among several. A routine that works for most teams:
- Start from the prompts Rankry wrote from your site, then check their Volume.
- Add prompts for the searches you already rank for in Google, and compare.
- Connect Search Console, on plans with the integration, to see searches you appear for but don’t track yet.
- Keep your highest-demand prompts on every engine.
- Use AI Volume to catch question-style demand that keyword volume misses.
- Don’t drop a prompt only because it shows N/A if it matches how your buyers talk.

Can I see search volume for AI prompts?
Yes. Every tracked prompt in Rankry has a Volume column with its Google search volume. Rankry maps the prompt to up to three exact searches and shows the largest Google Ads volume among them, as a 12-month average.
Where does Rankry’s search volume come from?
From Google Ads search volume, fetched through DataForSEO. The figure is a 12-month average and includes close variants of each search.
Why doesn’t Rankry show the volume of my exact prompt?
Long, conversational prompts almost never have keyword volume of their own, because people don’t type them into Google word for word. Rankry translates each prompt into the short searches people do type, and measures those instead.
Does the Volume column add up several keywords?
No. It shows the largest value among the prompt’s exact searches. Adding them up would count the same people several times, since one person can search in more than one way.
Why do so many of my prompts show N/A?
N/A means none of the prompt’s exact searches has measurable Google volume. That is common for niche or very specific questions, for prompts in languages other than English, and for new topics. It doesn’t mean the prompt is worthless: if it matches how your buyers talk, keep tracking it.
How often is search volume refreshed?
Every 30 days, and also when prompts are generated, imported or edited. Because the number is a 12-month average, it changes slowly.
Which country is search volume measured in?
Your project’s country, or worldwide for Global projects. Volume is measured with English-language keyword data, so prompts in other languages may show low values or N/A.
What’s the difference between Volume and AI Volume?
Volume is Google Ads search volume for the prompt’s searches: how often people type them into Google. AI Volume estimates demand from the questions people ask in Google’s “People also ask”. Neither counts prompts typed into an AI assistant. Rankry shows both side by side.
Can I get search volume for keywords I’m not tracking?
Rankry shows volume for the prompts in your project; it is not a general keyword research tool. To find Google searches you already appear for but don’t track, connect Search Console and check the Search Console block on the Opportunities page, which lists them by impressions.
Does high search volume mean AI will send me traffic?
Not by itself. Volume shows demand for a topic; whether AI names you, and whether people click, are separate questions. Rankry tracks the first with visibility and position, and AI Traffic on Pro counts the visits AI engines send to your site.
