Share of voice
Share of voice splits all the mentions in the period between you and the competitors you track. It answers: when AI talks about brands like yours, how much of that conversation is about you?
What you see
Section titled “What you see”- A donut with one slice per brand, in the brand’s color. The center shows Your share; hover a slice or a row to see that brand’s share instead.
- A list of every brand with its number of mentions (“24 mentions”) and its share, most-mentioned first. Your row is tinted and marked You. A brand with no mentions still appears, at 0%.
- A picker on the card for All providers or a single engine. The header’s model filter sets it too.
If no answer in the period named any of the brands, the card says “No brand mentions in this report yet.”
How it’s calculated
Section titled “How it’s calculated”A mention is one answer that names the brand, where an answer is one engine’s reply to one prompt in one scan. On a single engine, only that engine’s answers count.
A brand’s share is its mentions divided by the mentions of every brand on the card:
| Brand | Mentions | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Northwind CRM (you) | 30 | 30% |
| Globex | 50 | 50% |
| Initech | 20 | 20% |
Shares are rounded to whole percents, so the column can add up to 99% or 101%. A brand with a few mentions among many shows <1% rather than 0%, so you can tell “rarely” from “never”.
The total only includes you and your tracked competitors. Adding or removing a competitor changes the total, so every brand’s share moves, including yours, even though no answer changed.
Share of voice and Visibility
Section titled “Share of voice and Visibility”The two answer different questions:
- Visibility is the share of all answers that name you. It doesn’t depend on anyone else.
- Share of voice is your slice of the mentions among the brands you track. It goes down when rivals are named more often, even if your Visibility stays the same.
So you can be named in 60% of answers and still hold only 25% of the voice, if three rivals are named just as often.
How to use it
Section titled “How to use it”- Compare engines. A rival with a large slice on one engine and a small one elsewhere is winning on that engine’s sources. Check Model preferences and Sources for that engine.
- Read it next to Visibility. Rising Visibility with a flat share means the whole category is being named more, not that you’re pulling ahead.
- Compare periods. Look at Last 30 days, then a later 30 days, to see whether your slice is growing.
- Keep the competitor set stable when you compare over time, since changing it changes every share.
